2014 Year End Message.......

GPAMO2014 has been a steady year for Greyhound adoptions for GPA Spfd MO.  We've adopted 36 Greyhounds as of Dec. 10 and five of these are seniors getting a forever home for the first time.

We continue to strive to help as many Greyhounds as possible.  And that costs money!  We help pay for transporting Greyhounds to other groups, we have paid for medical problems for some Greyhounds with another group and we have paid for vet work for a few permanent fosters.  These are Greyhounds that have been returned to our group and they are maybe 11+ years old.  We'll place them in a home at that age and pay for their medical needs.

Our adoption fee has been $185 since 2007.  Starting Jan. 1, 2015 we will be charging $200 for our adoption fee, which is still extremely inexpensive.  Our expenses for each Greyhound we place are greater than our adoption fee.  So financial support continues to be needed and we can't continue our mission without your help.

We also are successful in our efforts due to the generosity of Dr. Ted Betzen for our foster Greyhounds' medical needs.  And in 2014 we were able to receive some food assistance from the Rescue Bank.  It really helped on food expenses this past year.  This is not a steady source for food.  It's sporadic and comes and goes on what if anything is available.

Please consider making a donation to GPA Springfield MO before this year's end!  We will put it to good use!

Greyhound Pets of America-Springfield, MO is a volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing information about and promoting adoption of retired racing greyhounds. We also promote cooperation with other adoption programs nationwide to further the placement of greyhounds as pets into responsible loving homes.

Alane Shultz is the founder of the local GPA chapter and has had retired racing greyhounds as pets for 30 years. She has facilitated greyhound adoptions since 1992.

Greyhounds are clean, quiet and have no hereditary health problems. Their exercise requirements are surprisingly low - they prefer to curl up and have you pet them! Loving and loyal, your greyhound is your fast friend for life!

SanchoSancho was 3 in December. He's very handsome and sweet, learns quickly,
and gets along with the three other greyhounds he's fostered with.
He likes his routine, but no cats for Sancho! He would be fine as an only dog.

"Steve & I wanted to see if we could raise a little bit of money for the greyhounds and GPAMO..." – Heidi Carlsen Rogers

Local artist Heidi Carlsen Rogers, one of our adopters in Bella Vista, Arkansas, has made a unique opportunity available for the benefit of GPAMO. Heidi writes, "Steve & I wanted to see if we could raise a little bit of money for the greyhounds and GPAMO for the holidays. We partnered on an art project and came up with shooting some black and white art prints called Studio Dogs. They are posted on my Etsy art site. Hoping our greyhound models can help their hound friends! We will donate 100% of proceeds to GPAMO."

Wouldn't these make wonderful gifts?
