Race For Adoption Hound Running for GPA Springfield - MO! Race For Adoption was started by Dennis McKeon with the idea of having a dog racing for the direct support of an adoption group. The basic premise of this is that a dog is “donated” to an adoption group of the owner’s choosing, and the winnings of that dog are given to the chosen adoption group. The idea took off, and there are several dogs currently running in other parts of the country for the benefit of other adoption groups. You can read all about Race For Adoption (also known as RFA) on their website, which is www.raceforadoption.com . It tells all about the current dogs racing, and the groups they are racing for and has photos and schedules and such of all the RFA hounds. There’s also a forum where you can post and read about the dogs, or ask questions or just chat about your own hounds. Through our association with Full House Racing Kennel at the Woodlands Greyhound Track in KC, KS and Trainer Darren Flahive and Asst. Trainer Cory Owens, Ann Waitley and I were fortunate enough to meet a wonderful woman by the name of Angela Wilson-Taylor, who lives near Boston, MA. Angela had never owned racing dogs but had adopted two of her three greyhounds through Full House Racing Kennel. We spent some time with her at the Abilene Gathering, and those of you who were there also got to meet her. Since the gathering, Angela was given the opportunity to purchase some racing dogs and she decided to get into this side of the greyhound world also. She is also a Race For Adoption team member, and among other things, takes care of their website. After purchasing her pups, she decided she wanted one of them to become an RFA hound, and she has chosen to have him run for GPA Springfield - MO and GPA-Salt Lake City, UT, and his winnings will be split between our two groups. With no further ado, I would like to introduce our RFA Greyhound.
BOW
Climbin Rainbows is a beautiful fawn boy with black points, and he’ll be 2 years old on Sept 11th of this year. I’ve met him, and he’s a sweet, good natured boy and a pleasure to be around. You can watch him race for our group too. There is a website that shows all the races at The Woodlands and you can access it from The Woodland’s website which is www.woodlandskc.com . There’s a box that says “Live Racing” on the main web page, and you can also get programs and results, etc. by clicking on the “greyhounds” link. Keith, the announcer, with his own adopted greyhound at his side in the announcer’s booth will be making sure everyone knows who Bow is, and will help promote our group and adoption in general. There will be more promotions coming in the future. I’ll keep you informed about all this as it happens. In the meantime I hope you’ll watch and enjoy “our” new hound. I will undoubtedly be getting more photos of him next time I’m at the track and they will be posted on our website. This is a project in the making. We can’t thank Angela enough for including our group in her generosity. If anyone wants more info or has questions feel free to phone me or email me at greyhound@mchsi.com or 417-766-8877. Run safe and fast, Bow!
